The dying lady was alone. Very elderly she had no family, barely responsive she gasped for breath, Her head was tilted back and here eyes were glassy and looking at something unseen. I did gentle comfort care, Good oral hygiene. softly brushed the curls from her eyes. Repositioned her body and but her heels up on pillows. A few tears escaped her eyes which I gently brushed away. I sat with her during this lonely time, unwilling to let her go alone . We sat in quiet silence, my hand holding her old one. Thinking about how my MIL and I sat like this many a time. Until slowly she eased over to the other side of life. Her suffering on earth has ended. fairwell sweet patient. go lightly, suffer no more..

How very sad your patient had no family to be with her in her dying moment. But it was so caring of you to be there for her. I am sure she appreciated it so much, and told her without words, what a special nurse you are, Julie.

You are such a special person to be with that lady in her last moments and tried to make her comfortable. I know that look well in her eyes. I truly believe they are seeing beyond this world into the other one. Helen

I've seen that look. Sad, but I'm sure that she felt comforted in your loving hands.

There is a time in this life, when you know that you've choosen the correct path....I know from experience, that you are whistling happily, as you continue down that flowered path. It is eveident in your writing that you've found your place in life. God bless you Julie...I ushered passings and witnessed those looks...a little smile, limpness and they're gone.
Every soul should be accompanied during their passing...never left to go alone except in sleep.

It's sad that in a lifetime, someone should be left so utterly alone at the end. You have a good heart Julie. Your presence was felt. (Hugs)Indigo

She was not alone in her final moments, Julia, and that is all that counts.
