New Dimple

I finally have the dimple I always wanted in my cheek. Unfortunately it isn't quite where I wanted it but what the heck. Taking a chunk out of your cheek is bound to leave a dip. The way I get scar tissue it will probably fill in quickly but if it doesn't it won't bother me.

Back to work next Thursday. I have to admit I am worried. It will be a difficult week getting used to working those hours again. I have been going to bed usually before 10 and just like clockwork I have been getting up at 6 am. I have tried to stay up later and sleep later. Isn't working. I guess I will just have to get back into it the hard way.

We have been watching Ken Burn's history of Jazz series that we got from the library. I love jazz so this has been very enjoyable. Nothing like music to sooth your soul. As far as reading. I got a book from the library by Christopher Moore. I love his books. Got home and started to read it and it was a different style. Checked and their are 2 Christopher Moores that write books. One is Christopher G. Moore. The one I got. This is 9 in a series so I probably will read a little and see if it is something I would like. If it is I will start from the beginning.

It is sleeting and snowing outside. I am glad none of my family has to be out tonight. Hurry up spring. Looking back in my archives I see we had snow in April last year so it may be another slow start to spring.

Well, time to get ready for bed.

Does anyone read their old archives to see what happened last year? Last year at this time I was working my tush off trying to get my MIL's house ready for the auction so we could sell it. It is hard to believe it has been that long already. On the 19th it is a year since my son bought the house. It is 6 months since I talked to my BIL. Almost a year since I talked to my sister. Time flys.

Well, Zoey is looking at me with her blue covered eyes, Lets go out in the sleet and snow she says, Oh goody.

Re-post

I posted this last year and decided it was worth posting again. I think I was starting to feel like the egg and need to go back to being the coffee.

Carrots, Eggs & Coffee

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up, She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you see.'

'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Men and women

Rick just excitedly told me, wow, Shimano's is coming out with an electronic shifter, isn't that cool!

On our drive the other day he out of the blue said, I think its neat the way they have those flat beds that curve in the middle, when they are loaded they flatten out.

When his coil went out in his motorcycle and I asked if that was bad I got a 1 hour class on the purpose of the coil and which were the best kind. Gee, yes or no is what I was looking for.

I have been trying to unclutter my house. I toss things and then months later when I venture in no womans land called the garage it will be up on a shelf. It may come in handy some day.

When I throw away my undies I cut them into small pieces because once I went out and found him polishing his motorcycle with a old one.

We toured the Harley factory in Wisconsin and watched them put V twin engines together. He was so excited he bought me a gold colored brooch in the shape of it.

I made him take me to the Miller brewery and drank lots of free samples.

I innocently will ask, I wonder how that does that, and for the next hour.....he tells me.

Just now he explained zip wheels and gears. He reads me the article about the gears and laughs the entire time. I smile, wondering what he talking about....

Men and women are different. Its a good thing because..... well the obvious of course and because. Would I have taken the time to learn all these things on my own?

Friday

Just wanted to drop a note. Doing better. I have been working on getting out of my funk and doing some walking. Exercise always improves the mood. My stitches are out of my face. The tiniest stitches you ever saw. You won't be able to find my incision before long.

I will be around more when I get over my blues.

Road trip

Aren't my roses opening up beautifully. They smell heavenly also. I am so happy they bred the smell back in.

It's another free day. No PT, no doc appointments, nada nothing. So....We are driving up to Vermillion's National Music Museum, formally known as the Shrine to Music.

They have the worlds most beautiful instruments and I am going there so hopefully I can finish off my A to Z photo challenge by finding a X,Y, and Z. Then there is a coffee shot up there where they make the best expresso. Simply have to stop there. Also in this town is a winery. It would be an insult not to stop and maybe pick up a bottle or two. Strickly for medicinal purposes as I think I read somewhere that wine is good for rotator cuff tears, drink enough of it and it kills the pain or something, LOL. So have to try that. Not while we're driving why drinking it of course.

After that we are going to Yankton and try out their brewery and Pizza. You just can't beat fresh brewed beer and they are getting hard to find around here. I hope it is good.

My camera batteries are charging and I am going to pop in the shower shortly. My youngest son is off so he can stop by later and let Zoey out.

Yesterday I finally changed doctors. Wish I had know about the deduction levels before all the surgery and Ricks TIA. Now the bills are pouring in and we are going to the hospitals armed with checkbooks and see how much we can get knocked off it we pay it in one lump sum. I am going for 20% but will settle for less. If they won't knock any off I will demand an itemized bill and refuse to pay a thing until I have audited it. What would they do if I demanded my Senior citizen discount, LOL. Thats a little ways down the road though.

I hope this new doctor is good. I have heard good things about him. Hopefully we won't have to see him often. He had better give me my sleeping pills.

Tomorrow morning at the extremely early time of 8 am I get my stitches out. Thank goodness. I have been good. The steri strips are still on, so firmly in fact that I fear I may lose some skin. I don't think they shaved me there and I have a pretty fuzzy face. I have a feeling that will be the worse. I am anxious to see what the scar looks like. At this point I am just grateful to have it off. 6 days cancer free, its a good thing.

Well time to get ready, it's cold out so I want to dress warm.

Book and a video

I went to the library to get some books and got the first 2 books that Ruth Reichl wrote. I am reading the first one which I should have read first called Tender to The Bone. It is a really good book. Highly recommend all her books.

We didn't do much today. My incision is really starting to bother me. I am tempted to pull off the steri strips and see how it looks. It seems to be around day 5 that my sutures get bad. Takes my body that long to reject them I guess. I am on antibiotics, but I don't think that helps with this problem. And unfortunately I have having those sharp nerve pains on my scalp back. Miserable. So I have had to take a pain pill. I am going to call the doc tomorrow and see what she wants to do.

We watched Ken Burn's Lewis and Clark tonight. This is the town where Charles Floyd died and the Lewis and Clark trail goes through on the Missouri. The grave is up on a bluff and is a nice place to sit and enjoy a nice day overlooking the river. Since I am a history buff this was a good way to spend the day trying to feel better.

It is cold today and was down to 7 degrees. I want some warm weather. We have snow all over again. Last little winter bravo before spring.

Well, I am going to bed and read. Hopefully this pain med will work. Ta to all.
