Getting better

Well I just got up and its feeling better, thank goodness the steroid must be kicking in. In fact my tendonitis feels better also. I can now chalk that up to something I won't have done again.......Ever!

Work was very busy again last. We are always busy this time of year. Again working in the hospital has a way of making you feel guilty about complaining about a little ole sore wrist and back. I had 3 patients my age that were in such bad shape. Oh my. I am so lucky to just have my little issues with my bones compared to what these poor patients are going through. And they are MY age.

Now I realize I am getting older. 50's is the new 30's but I am still relatively young and inspite of my constant witching about something hurting I am in pretty good shape. After all I would have to be to work 12.5 hours, right. So last night as I was working with my painful wish I was also doing a mantra. I am lucky, I am lucky. I Can work. I Am employed. I don't have anything life threatening. I am only on 3 medications, I am contenant. Very good. So it is eye opening and good to put things in perspective.

Our department is completely bare of Christmas decorations. No one is really in the mood this year, everything is so expensive and everyone I know is cutting way down on their spending. what about you guys. Are you all spending less. I am but the cost of things is so expensive it seems like I am spending about the same but getting way less for my money. Not a single Doctor has given us anything or families. That is completely different then years past.

We use do have decorations all over. Now our tree has to be on a cart so we can move it quickly. They limit what we can put up. And we are usually very busy and running our tushes off and have to work the holiday so who is feeling very Christmasy anyway. Families will bring small trees and holiday flowers if it looks like their family members will have to stay and that will be that. Our new male nurse is really bummed about it. He remembers being in the hospital during Christmas and the decorations. Reality sucks, LOL.

Well, this is dragging on and going no where fast. 2 more days down. I have to jump in the shower and then work on some Christmas cards. Thank you everyone for allowing me my whine. It helps to crab about it. For a little while.

You made me feel very blessed to be in the fairly good health that I am in. I have my issues. But, I gotta say that those 12.5 hour shifts did me in. You are stronger than I am!
I know what you mean about decorations. We used to have so many up, trees in every corner, and FOOD and baskets given to us by the Docs. It does cheer up staff. I hope they do bring you some goodies after all.

Glad you are feeling better. I am so thankful every day that I am in good health at my age - and I'm thankful you are too!
I find I'm probably spending about the same this year - it's going to put me further behind than it has in previous years, but I still have young kids, and I'm blessed that they never ask for much of anything other than birthdays and Christmas - and that I can still do it for them, so many can't this year.
Hope things pick up as far as holiday spirit goes at the hospital. Happy December :-)

The decorations at our work are so old..but the lady who decorates sure does a great job! It's a terrible time of year to be in the hospital, but I know it must be busy! I'm glad you are feeling better! Julie

I am so glad that you are feeling better. I myself am not in much of a Christmas spirit. I have not put out on single item yet. Thing is when I put things out then I have to put them back up so that is double work on this back. It's just not worth the effort this year. I hate being in this shape. But at least I am not in a wheel chair yet and can walk around in the house although what I do is limited. Helen

I am glad you are feeling better and able to count your blessings. Many hospitals over here no longer put up decoratios, they are considered a health hazard. Likewise flowers are no longer allowed on wards because they make the cleaners jobs more difficult! Christmas is changing so much, no more nativity plays, people in multi-cultural work places told they cannot give religious cards as it might offend others. Sad.

Yes, we have definitely spent less this Christmas.

It's not nice is it? Having to put up with worse pain until the injection kicks in. Poor you! Twelve and a half hour shifts on top of all that too!
At least you are now getting a wee bit of respite and it helps too to thank God for not being in the same position as those you are caring for. 'There but for the grace of God go you or I'.
Bryan hasn't begun to put the decorations up yet. They are slowly coming down out of the attic, when he can leave his trains up there alone. Lol!
I have spent more this year than last. But I enjoy giving surprises.
I have been snowed in for a few days so my christmas cards are going to go out later than usual.
At least they are now written out.
It's good to have friends around to let off a bit of steam to...isn't it? You rant away Julie. We are all here for you.
Hugs

I guess it's just a fact of life that when you reach 50, things start to fall apart. I try to sit down and be thankful that I am working even though the money just doesn't stretch far enough anymore. I've noticed that not many are decorating outside this year either. My whole area used to be a glow with lights. This economy gets more frightening every day. I'm glad you are feeling better.
