Spring Saturday and Eagles

And a beautiful day is also. Zoey and I went out for her morning walk. I have iris's coming up in my flower beds. The birds are singing and happy. There is a warm breeze in the air. Have you noticed every season smells different. Spring always smells earthy and fresh. Full of hope my fingers start itching to get some flowers planted. I didn't get my flower bed put to bed last year, my hand was so bad, I have my work set out for me now.

She loves this weather also and for one of the few rare times stayed out on her chain and just laid in the sun. Spring makes you spirits lift, and the sunshine pokes its head into you soul and says... you made it. Yippy.

I was watching the eagle nest today. They are going to hatch any day and she was busy turning the eggs. So far all 3 are still there. So in the next day or 2 we should babies. How cool is that.

I slept so poorly last night. Just couldn't get to sleep, my shoulder hurt and just wasn't tired. Sometimes those steroid shots do that. Its to soon to tell if its going to help for the pain.

Oof da. I went to get the Celebrex the doc ordered. Since it is a work comp they are suppose to pay for it. I called the work comp lady but whe never returned the call. So I didn't that the number they are billing this all to. Well I thought I would just pay it and have them reimburse me. Yikes, they wanted $189 dollars for a NSAID! Wow. You have got to be kidding me. I said thanks but no thanks, I'll take motrin instead.

I can understand why patients don't take their medicine. I just got done paying my $2000 out of pocket and haven't gotten a full check yet. No way I was spending that type of money. And does it really work better then motrin? I didn't notice any difference when I was taking it before, none, nada. I might as well have been taking a sugar pill.

Today we are going to a independent film festival. Should be fun. First we go and watch all the shorts from local artists. Then at 7 we will see the winners. Hope I stay awake for it.

Well, heard another story on my BIL. One of his nephews got his a easy job where he works. No stress and not hard work. Seems my BIL was bringing a flask to work and ran into the building with the forklift, took out 2 doors and all the phones. The nephew had to fire him. Of course BIL left that part out. Said the job was too stressful for him. You can't help this man when you try.

Time to iron my shirt. Why do I seem to drawn to shirts that have to be ironed. Oh well, I love they way they look freshly pressed. Have a sunny day.

Food Friday

Mushroom Soup

1/2 pound mushrooms, ( I like Baby Bella's) 1 cup beef broth
1/2 stick (1/4 c.) unsalted butter 2 c. half and half
1 small onion salt and pepper
4 tbsp flour 1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 bay leaf

Thinly slice the mushrooms. Melt butter in a heavy saute pan. When the foam subsides add the onion and saute until golden brown. Add the mushrooms and saute until brown. Stir in the flour, and then slowly add the broth, stirring constantly. Heat the half and half in a saucepan or in the microwave. Add it to the mushrooms, along with salt, pepper, nutmeg, and bay leaf. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes; do not boil. Remove bay leaf and serve.

This is fast and so yummy. Can't believe I used to hate mushrooms.

Doc Visit

I saw the ortho doc. What a nice man and very good looking. His mother was a nurse so he knows the work nurses do. That helps a lot.

I have a bone spur which he saids is also helping to keep the shoulder irritated. It is above the tear. When I move the arm it hits the spur and keeps it irritated. We will never know if the tear happened when I moved the patient or just got irritated when I moved the patient. Possibly I had it. Either way he says it takes a good 6 months to recover. If no improvement by then surgery. 3 months to go. Hopefully it will recover.

He is giving me celebrex again which is a anti-inflamitory. I didn't notice any relief when I was on it before but I will try anything. And I got a steroid shot in my shoulder. Although it wasn't as bad as when I got it in my wrist if I never ever get another one that would be just fine with me. Ouch. It takes about 3 to 6 days to get relief so keep your fingers crossed. Oh to be pain free, what a great thing that would be. And I start PT again, but he wants me with his therapists.

So better news I think. He also said if they won't work with me on my restrictions at work, absolutely no lifting with this arm he is going to take me off work. It will not heal if I have to use it. And recovery from shoulder surgery is major time off work. I do not want surgery so they had better find something for me to do. I told him about working short all weekend and the type of patients they gave me and he got ticked. I like this man.

So anyway. I have ice on my shoulder, by next Thursday hopefully I will be pain free or better and life is good.

It is nice out but getting ready to rain. Looks like a good day to curl up with a book. He did say if bike riding didn't hurt my arm I could do it and I can start going to gym, but just don't use any arm machines. Time to get in shape for the bike trails.

Well, take care all and have a great weekend.

Hello all

Our company just left. We had a fun visit, played some cards and they left me some See's candy, yummy. Since my diet is still just in the planning stage I ate a piece.

It went OK sleeping with them here. I have one of those things that makes ocean sounds etc.... White noise they call it. I use it to help block out the rest of the day noise. I was just miserable when I got home from work so I took a pain pill, a sleeping pill, turned that thing on and slept pretty good. However. I didn't make it to work that night. My shoulder is much worse and now my other shoulder is hurting. It is not good to lift with just one arm. You mess yourself up. I don't want to be messed up permanently and I don't want the other shoulder going out on me.

I told the work comp lady that it was a impossible situation. We were short all weekend. If they actually know what a nurse does they would know it can't be done with one arm. They said they would count it as a call in since I didn't come in, so be it. I do have a good lawyer. If they insist I work with this injury I got there they should also insure I don't injure myself further and keep us staffed well. I'll do my part if they do theirs.

Tomorrow I see the doc. Today I am off. I have found that ice works the best on my shoulder for keeping the pain down so I have been using that alot. Another thing, my wrist isn't working quite as well as I hoped it would. It will take time but I have to make sure and do my exercises or I can tell I will lose some function in it. Sometimes I wish I could take my doc's advice and cut down at work or retire. Someday. I would miss it though. I have decided however that I need to start looking for a different position that doesn't involve as much lifting. It is just getting to be to much for. Hate to admit it, but it is true.

Today the weather is beautiful. It has been nice all week. I don't see anything green yet but it will only be a matter of time. I had 17 turkeys in the back yard and about 6 deer. Spring is here.

Oh, I got some news on my BIL. He still lives in town in one of those little hotels they rent by the week. He lost his driving license for a DUI. Not surprising. I wondered why the car was always sitting there. He talks to his cousin who says he is still drinking a lot. Sad. Now he has to hire a lawyer and try and get his driving back if he is ever going to leave town. Our relatives didn't want to call him or visit him if he is still drinking so they never looked him up. So sad he has turned all his family agains't him. I think I am the only one who worries about him and then I think it is just the nurse in me. Can't help myself.

Well, I can't type much, it just kills my arm for some reason. It is now burning all the way down my arm and into my hand. At work I had 2 patient's I walked that had a history of passing out. I kept them on my good side but it makes me nervous. What if they started to pass out. I would try and catch them and finish tearing the muscle completely. No way would I let them fall. But those things happen. I can't wait until I am healed up and don't have to worry about things like that.

I will visit everyone's journals. I got behind with work and company. Hope your all enjoying this wonderful weather like we are.

Lovely Day

I made it through my weekend to work and had yesterday off to recuperate. We have company from Missouri coming today so did spend most of yesterday cleaning house, but it was a lovely day, in the 70's so we had the windows open. It felt so good. If I didn't have to get ready for the company I would have maybe gone for a bike ride. Soon. Not sure how my shoulder would have held up though.

I work tonight and tomorrow and then my week off. I was upset Sunday as I had the heaviest patient on the floor. They could just cut me some slack until I am healed. Of course when they are over 500 pounds we all pitch in and help and the patient was very nice, but they are making it hard on me. We were so busy Sunday and I had to keep asking people to help me which I don't usually have to do. I couldn't even pull a side rail up the other. My arm is so weak I couldn't get it to budge. My patient did it for me. Sheesh. Can't wait for this to heal.

If our company gets here before 11 we are going to a St Patty's day parade. Should be fun. The bad thing is I have to work the next 2 nights. They weren't suppose to be here until Thursday. Now I have to try and sleep while they are here and when Rick and his cousins get together they talk, a lot. So I might need some ear plugs. I am grumpy if I don't get my beauty sleep.

Don't forget to tell people about my poll. So far only a few have voted.

Well, I had better clean up my act. My hair is all over the place, I look a mess. Time to get dressed and ready for the day. Bye all.

Last Night of my 4 night stretch

Isn't it terrible, I am already counting the days til my day off. Oh yeah, love my day's off.

I got off this morning and went outside. Geese were flying and honking overhead. Nice spring day. Got home and ready for bed. Opened the window.... birds were singing and singing and singing. Took a nice deep breath and hollered, Hey! I'm trying to sleep here... QUIET. No really, but it is hard to sleep with spring waking up and everyone so darn happy and loud out enjoying it but me. And my darn neighbors. They love 4 wheeling. All day. roar, roar, roar. All over down the road, in the woods next door. All 6 of them. It's not the sleeping when it is light out. Its the sleeping while the rest of the world is awake. Mowing, playing, roaring.

I keep a fan on and wear ear plugs when it get too bad. I can't expect the world to stop because little ole me wants to sleep. And my sleeping pills are a god send. I am lucky I don't have close really close neighbors. Our's is the only house on the block and the noisy ones are up on the hill.

Work started out terrible yesterday. I was in so much pain and almost called in. This is ridiculous just using one arm and impossible. My good arm is taking a beating. But the tylenol and motrin kicked in and I had mobile patients so it went well. I hope I get the same group back as they were really sweet. My cute little 90 year old patient goes once a week to the community
center with her 100 year old friend. I had another 90 year old lady who gets together with friends once a week and go out to dinner. They would then go to her house, (because she has the fun house), and have a few martini's. Now I figure they all have to be in their 90's. Can you imagine all her friends driving home afterwards, LOL. I know I will never drink 2 again.

I just love patients like that. So cute.

My grandkids are coming in June. I am excited to see them. It has been a long time. I miss them so much. We are for sure going to Chucky Cheese again. We had a blast there the last time playing with all the games. And of course I have to cook brownies with my granddaughter. It's a tradition. I can't wait for hugs.

Well, I guess that about covers it. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Ta all.

Bad night

With the exception of one truly trying patient I had some real sweeties last night. The one not so sweet went AMA ( against medical advice), this morning. Didn't get what he wanted at our hospital and is going to try another one, LOL. Seems like he tries them all coast to coast. Watch out Pam or Julie, might be heading your way.

I have been trying really hard not to use my arm and everyone is really helping me out but the shoulder is so much worse. I have this terrible burning down my arm all of a sudden and it feels like my muscle in my shoulder blade is all bunched up. The pain is really getting difficult to deal with. Why it is getting so much worse I have no idea. Obviously I am not happy about it.

I have ice on right now while I am typing and took a pain pill I have from my facial surgery. Since that wasn't very painful I decided the pain pills might be more needed when I returned to work and they are.

My wrist though is holding up very well. I am so glad that pain is gone. Wish the shoulder pain was gone. Oh to be pain free for just one day. It would be like a picnic. Maybe those days are gone.

Of course now that I am back to work the weather is just beautiful and suppose to be in the 70's soon. Spring is coming for sure. Most of the snow has melted once again.

Well, this is it for now. Even this is bothering the shoulder from ..... well you know. I hope this is as bad as it gets. It can't get any worse right. Right?
