Is it really Friday already?

I just wanted to ask people to please stop by Dutch's and Donna's blogs and wish them well. Why we are busy planning what cookies to make and gifts to by both of these wonderful ladies are planning surgery on the 16th and 17th. Dutch on a brain tumor and Donna on her leg. Now I know they will both be OK but it never hurts to have as many prayers as possible out there for them, you know. Be well you two.

Yesterday was a useless day. Work was so busy all week. It exhausts you physically and mentally. It is too cold to go out and take a long bike ride and it is light such a short time you never really wake up. So I spend yesterday just catching up on sleep and mental well being. I needed to recharge. I feel much better today. Sooooooo.

I am going to finish my Christmas shopping, finish my cards and bake cookies. Our meat store sells pre-made cookie dough, several different types. They are excellent and they are completely make, cut and everything. You just pop them in the over. They are each 6 dollars and makes 6 dozen. You can't make them that cheap. My kind of cookies. I want to make some for my son's. The lazy moms way, LOL.

Tonight we are going to a play downtown. It is a Christmas Comedy and I know the man that is acting in it, he is very good. Should be a good time. We didn't see the rose lady the other day so hopefully she will be downtown because I am late on my rose. I want it, I need it, I deserve it, right?

Not much elst going on. My wrist is still bothersome but I have noticed I can type longer and my hand doesn't seem to be going dead on me, just hurts, so maybe that steroid shot helped some.

I am sitting here this morning listening to Christmas music with my Christmas lights on drinking some good old red eye coffee. Its going to be a good day. Good Cheer all.

Well, class is over and I am good to go for 2 more years. We did a couple of mock codes and you all will be glad to know the patient lived.

I was well practiced as last night night 1/2 hour before I was suppose to go home a patient did code for real so it was like reliving last night. That gets your adrenaline running and then I had trouble sleeping when I got home. So I am so tired today. That is the 2nd code we have had this week and superstitious nurses believe they come in 3. So one more night to go.

I don't work until 11 tonight. We are going out to eat and and then I am coming home and napping. I hope to sleep until 10. Cross your fingers we aren't crazy busy tonight....except crazy busy goes by real fast which is good when your tired.

Got half of my cards mailed and I am getting cards from the card exchange in. Thanks Linda and Missy and Merry Christmas back at you. The card is in the mail.

Ornament

The ornament above I have sitting on a shelf looking at my Christmas tree. I thought it would make a cute card.

Clarification. The mammogram entry was a joke that my aunt sent me. I had something close like that posted the last time I had a mammogram, oh boy, aren't they fun.

Well, off to work for 4 hours and then class tomorrow. I studied this morning. I really study the drugs as I don't do them often. As part of the code team my responsibilities are the suction and recording. I don't think I have done the meds for around 7 years. So I always have to study the doses and sequence of meds. That will be the hardest part for me, that and the fact they copy these monitor strips and you can hardly see the lines to count your rate. These eyes are getting a little old for that.

We had a ton of snow today and it is 12 degrees out. Burrrrrr. Have I mentioned I love my heated seats in the new van? Well, we have been taking the old so if anyone slides out of control they will just dent my old van. So cold bottom for me. Oh well, worse things. I remember not have a heater in my car when the kids were small.

Well this morning I am studying for my advanced cardiac life support class this morning that was canceled last month. I take the class in the morning. I have done my pre-test and now am reviewing the book. I am not looking forward to sitting in a class all day tomorrow but at least I only have to work until 11:30 tonight and then I don't have to go in until 11 tomorrow. So it will work out.

We had around 3 to 5 inches of snow depending on who you listen too last night. It was preceded by rain which froze so the roads were not good which means I didn't get my date night last night. He owes me double this weekend, LOL. I need a new rose. My son have to drive about 35 miles to and from work but I just talked to him and he is home OK. My other son drives a waste management truck and they get along pretty good so he should be fun. No matter what their ages you worry. You know us mom's.

If things look pretty out I may try and get some neat snow pictures but it is hard to talk myself into venturing out in the cold weather. But. I am going to hang some apples for the birds and put out seed and maybe that pretty cardinal will come by and pose nicely.

Well, time to finish my studies and do laundry. Stay well all.

POWER OUTAGE DURING A MAMMOGRAM

I actually kept my mammogram appointment. I was met with,
'Hi! I'm Belinda!' This perky clipboard carrier smiled from ear
to ear, tilted her head to one side and crooned, 'All I need you
to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then
slip on this gown. Everything clear? '

I'm thinking, 'Belinda, try decaf. This ain't rocket science.'

Belinda skipped away to prepare the chamber of horrors. With
the right side finished, Belinda flipped me (literally) to the left and
said, 'Hmmmm. Can you stand on your tippy toes and lean in a
tad so we can get everything?'

Fine, I answered. I was freezing, bruised, and out of air, so why
not use the remaining circulation in my legs and neck and finish
me off? My body was in a holding pattern that defied gravity (with
my other boob wedged between those two 4 inch pieces of square
glass) when we heard, then felt a zap! Complete darkness and the
power went off!

'Oh, maintenance is working. Bet they hit a snag.' Belinda headed
for the door.

'Excuse me! You're not leaving me in this vise alone are you?' I shouted.

Belinda kept going and said, 'Oh, you fussy puppy... the door's wide
open so you'll have the emergency hall lights. I'll be right back.'

Before I could shout 'NOOOO!' she disappeared. And that's exactly
how Bubba and Earl, maintenance men extraordinaire, found me,
half-naked and part of me dangling from the Jaws of Life and the other
part smashed between glass!

After exchanging polite 'Hi, how's it going' type greetings, Bubba
(or possibly Earl) asked, to my utter disbelief, if I knew the power was off.

Trying to disguise my hysteria, I replied with as much calm as possible
'Uh, yes, yes I did thanks.'!

'You bet, take care' Bubba replied and waved good-bye as though I'd
been standing in the line at the grocery store.

Two hours later, Belinda breezes in wearing a sheepish grin and making
no attempt to suppress her amusement, she said, 'Oh I am sooo sorry!'
The power came back on and I totally forgot about you! And silly me,
I went to lunch. Are we upset?'

And that, Your Honor, is exactly how her head ended up between the clamps........

An Appology

You know I should know better. This has happened it the past. I get home after a long night. Take a sleeping pill and come in here to read some posts before bedtime. Then before giving it much thought I decide to write a entry.

It usually starts out OK. Makes sense. No spelling errors. However........somewhere in the middle of my post the sleeping pill starts to hit me, (have I mentioned because of my wrist it is taking me awhile to type an entry lately), and I start to get very drowsy and its gets difficult to type. My entry rapidly deteriorates and as in the earlier post apparently I just gave up and went to bed, LOL.

So note to self. No entries after I have had my sleeping pill. At least until my wrist is repaired and my typing speeds up again. Please be assured I am mentally alert and sharp at work and no lives are in danger, LOL. Its the sleeping pill. And I say thank heaven for it. Without my sleeping pill I was only sleeping 4 good hours a day and then I was groggy and dull. So getting them was a god send to me.

We had snow last night. Just a sprinkling like powder sugar on brownies. But cold, oh boy. Even Zoey is chilly and she is never cold.

My wrist is showing more improvement today. Still stiff and tender when moved in a certain way but not near as bad as that first day. Its a good thing. My tendon had been burning and very sensitive. Touching it bothered me as the skin felt scorched. That is better also. I just love it when things get better.

Well, time to close this and read some more journals. And do cards while I watch Rick make supper. Bye all.

Last day of my stretch

I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Staffing was excellent last night. Thank goodness. I gave blood to 2 patients and worked all night trying to get a patients blood pressure down. Finally around 4 it settled down and I thought about taking a break as I haven't had a break all week. We are suppose to get 2 fifteen minutes and a half hour. I normally get none. So a break was going to be nice.

Then one of my patients went into Flash pulmonary edema. It was the worse and fastest I had seen in quite awhile. One minute talking to you the next fighting for each breath and her life We intubated her and then transfered her to ICU. The treatment is lasix to draw off the fluid. It is a true medical emergency. So that got me behind and no break for me.
\
But I did get outside in the snow in time to see how pretty the sky was on the way home.

Boy, I should not do these entries when I first get home as I am so tired by the time I sit down I just start falling asleep right in the middle, LOL. I have no trouble sleeping when I get home.
