Update

OK, its been a long day. They think Rick had a TIA or a small stroke. His blood pressure was elevated and his mouth is still drooping but everything else looks good. So they started him on Plavix ( at blood thinner) and a new blood pressure medication and he has to have an echo, Carotid duplex and a MRI of the head. Of course we can't get in for the tests until next Wednesday. Which just happens to be the only day I have all kinds of tests and PT for my shoulder and to see my doctor for my pre-op tests. I am not a stroke nurse but I am concerned about starting a blood thinner until we find out if he is having a hemorrhagic stroke or one from plaque. Starting a blood thinner if he had a bleed could kill him. So I am concerned. Time to call in some favors and talk to friends who know more about strokes then me.

Rick as usual is denying that anything could be wrong. Everyone sees the drooping but him and it took me a few days. to talk him into seeing the doctor. You have 3 hours with a stroke before it is too late to do anything and it took me 4 days to talk him into going. And even then I didn't really tell him about the appointment until a hour before. Men! This could explain lots of things that have been going on for the last year but we shall see what the tests show. And I will be off until Thursday to watch him.

Thank you for all your prayers. I hope everything works out and I really hope he doesn't cancel by next week or refuses to take his medication. Somethings he turns really stubborn about.

Julia, not sure if to say I'm glad it wasn't worse, or if to say I'm sorry, but I'm just glad you got there in time and that you have friends who can advise you.

I know about "stubborn" men, we just went through an illness with my dad and wound up in the hospital after 4 days of insisting he go see the doctor.

I'm still praying for him!

I'm glad you were able to get him to the doctor, and it's good that you are in the medical field to recognize the symptoms. You will be having a busy week and I will continue to pray for you both.

How very scary. My dad had one that sounds slightly similar. I came home from work, and my mom told me that he wasn't "well".. He couldn't put his shoes on..just in a daze. He had the droopy mouth going on too, but he was denying everything too. He did fine a few days later.. Take care-my prayers are you both-I hope he continues to get better. :) Julie

I'm so glad you got Rick to go for the appointment. Let's hope that the blood thinners don't do any more damage. You're in my prayers that all will go well, for both of you, on Wednesday. Jeannette xx

My Dad had TIA's for over a year...and my husband has actually had two strokes...prior were small TIA's.
The drooping can last for days or go away in hours. I've seen both. Hope and pray he will be okay...many hugs,
Joyce

Being a nurse is a double edged sword. Most of us would not worry but we don't have as much knowledge. I would definitely check with the other nurses who have stroke and TIA experience. A good friend of my BF and I is a cardiolgy ICU nurse. She has been a huge help. Keeping Rick and you in my prayers, and yes, men are a different breed when it comes to doctors. Hang in there....

I just hope he does what he needs to do and doesn't get stubborn about it. Good luck to you!

I will continue to keep him in my prayers on the smoke. I do hope he keeps his appointment. This isn't the time to be a stubborn kid. He needs to be an adult and step up to the plate. This is serious, I hope he listens to you hon. (Hugs)Indigo
