Grandchildren

Tomorrow the grandkids will be here.   I am so excited I can't sleep.   But also we have a tornado watch going on right now so I am having trouble sleeping due to that also.   It is lighting and thundering out.   I hope the rest of the tree doesn't come down.

I spent much of the day in the pool today since it was soooo hot.   And being the good little skin cancer survivor that I am I am burnt.   I used sun screen,  it just wasn't enough.   Bummer.

My surgery is getting closer and closer.   I am getting more and more nervous.   I am so sick and tired of getting cut up.   Please cross your fingers that this surgery works and I am never going to have any surgery again.

Otherwise not much going on.   Exercising a lot so I am stick and sore most of the time.   Gee, it wasn't this hard getting in shape when I was younger.   Still losing slowly but losing which is a good thing.   Finally broke down and went down 2 sizes in pants.   Couldn't keep them up anymore.

Well,  the thunder is getting closer.  Time to shut down the computers .  Hope the worst misses us.

Weight loss and politics trim the fat.

Created by MyFitnessPal - Nutrition Facts For Foods

As you can see I am still losing weight, yeah me.   26.4 pounds since I joined My Fitness Pal.com and 8 pounds before that.   Plus what I lost and didn't gain back before means I have lost 46 pounds.   It feels good.
I have been riding my bike again and went on a 14 mile ride yesterday.   The weather was hot and humid, 93 out.   I only had to use my inhaler once.   So far this year I have had a couple of nasty asthma attacks so I am being very cautious and using my inhaler before and during long rides and it seems to be helping.

I am also working out to DVD's at home.   I am doing the 5 mile walk and Sweatin to the Oldies.   Love the music in the Sweatin tapes.   My goal was to lose 8 pounds by my surgery on the 6th.  I am not sure I will make it but every little bit helps,  right.

I am feeling bad about being off during the month of July.   We are short and then they just announced a strike by the nurses for that month.   The hospital will really be short.  I personally don't think nurses should strike.  I actually do not like the union we have and have never joined.  But I especially don't think nurses should strike.   Patients have to be able to know we are there to take care of them.   They have enough to worry about without being worried about that.   I took an oath to my patients.

On other notes.    The tax and trade bill,  whoops, cap and trade bill.   I read this bill will raise each and everyone of our utility bills by a thousand a month.   No matter what your income is.   That is just one of the terrible things.   They will want to be able to put a regulator in everyone's homes so they can adjust your heat.   Special outlets that you will need a key to open,  but you won't get the key.  They will decide when you vacuum your rugs,  when you dry your hair.  What your thermostat will be set at.  66 will be the norm.   My friend that has a tv in every room?  Bye bye.   But she doesn't believe it will happen anyway.   Not that she pays any attention  to politics or the news or has even read the bill.  She just doesn't believe it can happen in the United States.  Sorry Sweety,  it can happen in Obama's USA.
Then the health care reform.   We have seen the first closings of insurance companies starting.   More will be following.  And did you know with this bill you will now be taxed on what your employers contributions are to your plan also?   And retirement plans, taxable, unbelievable.   This new government is hell bent on destroying the country.

Electric cars.   Give me a break.   How are we going to charge these cars that at the best only go 60 miles a charge?   What kind of pipe dream is this.   Imagine a vacation where you will only be able to go as far as your battery will allow.   And we have people at my hospital that drive more then 60 miles to work.  Guess they will be out of luck.  As if I remember my science, coal is a natural product.  What about all those batteries?  What is it they say the lifetime of them is,  a year at most?  Mountains of used batteries leaking.  How come the EPA isn't screaming about that?

Wind turbin's?  Twice as expensive as coal and hazardous to your health it turns out.   Very expensive to maintain.  Again,  the reason why your utility bill will go up to unheard of amounts.   And how many thousands and thousand of jobs will this cost.

Why this government is hell bent on destroying our economy I have trouble understanding.   When we are all out of work,  when we are all on the government dole, who will pay the taxes?   Who will give to charities, who will maintain the roads,  who will become doctors, nurses, mechanics?  Then what,  THEN WHAT.

My same friend that doesn't believe they will tax her for her fireplace or her 8 TV's also drives a SUV.   The biggest you can get.   She flies all over the country a couple times a month.   She loves here life.  Why won't she do all she can to protect it?   Why aren't we all?

Iowa Weather

We have been having storms move through every night lately.  2 nights ago I was sleeping and felt this vibration moving the entire house.   I turned off the window air and hear this roaring outside with strong rain.   Looking out the window I couldn't see a thing but the house still vibrated for about a minute.   Spooky.  Our computers were down so we turned on the radio but didn't really hear anything.  So I went back to bed.  Yesterday we went outside to see if the storm had done anything.

Man,  huge trees just twisted and snapped off right on our side yards to either side of us and tossed around like twigs.   On the lot to the north of us this massive branch is just twisted and barely hanging on.   When it comes down it will probably hit my roof again.   And the owner lives in Oregon.  Great.   I am going to write him a letter and tell him he has to get it removed.   I also have to have the tree people out to remove the rest of the others.   I am so lucky the tornado didn't hit our house.  Pretty scary.

Last night the same thing.  Got woke up at 3 am by thunder and lightning.  I haven't been out yet but hopefully it won't be as bad.

Let's see, whats new.   I have lost at total of 33 pounds, 25 since I joined my fitness pal.   My knee is messed up and I can barely walk since I twisted it at work making doing my Sweatin to the Oldies difficult,   my surgery on my wrist is the 6th,  the grandchildren are coming on the 1st and Zoey has lost weight and is doing well.   Chester is still hanging in there and cute and fluffy and Rick, without even dieting has lost 12 pounds.  He makes it look so easy.

Haven't gotten a ride in with the weather being so bad but hopefully I will if my knee will let me.   I think I really screwed it up this time.  The pain in unbelievable and it hurts all the time.  It's always something.   Missy, how long should I wait until I see a doc about it?   It has been a week and is worse then it was.  I have been icing it,  using heat,  ibuprofen, and I wear a sleave brace when I do my aerobics but that really makes it hurt.
Anyway,  things otherwise are going well.   I was pleased with the primaries and am praying they can do something about getting rid of the cap and trade bill.   Did you know they want to give the EPA complete control over controlling energy costs.   They will put controls on your furnace and you will have no say in what you run your furnace in the winter or air in the spring.  They say every single person will see a increase of $1000 a month in energy costs.   This new government has proven to be 100 % more destructive then I feared.   People are starting to wake up to it but there are so many people who just aren't paying attention.

Well, enough of that depressing stuff.   Wake up America and keep voting in people who can overturn this horrible force we have in there now.

Surgery and Trolls

Well,  I see the troll is back.  Imagine having such a little life.   Oh well,  it is nothing to me.   Onward.

I am going to end up having to have surgery after all.   The mass is back on my wrist so we will try once more to rid me of it.   Darn thing.   I am not having surgery until July since we have a co-worker just coming back and I want to make sure we are staffed well.

The weather is great here and we have been riding a lot plus I have been working out to a work out tape.   Never thought I would do that.  But it is kind of fun.   Zoey likes watching me, LOL.

Well, have to get the van.   We lost windshield number 3 to a gravel truck.  I swear they should be responsible for paying for the windshields.   I pull over if I even see one close.  Take care all.

Aprons

The History of  'APRONS'

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few.
It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material.
But along with that, it served as a potholder for  removing hot pans from the oven.     It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..
And when the weather was cold grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folks knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.   It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.     REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.
Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.   They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
P.S.   I never saw my Grandmother without one of those aprons on.

Inner Peace

Inner Peace: This is so true

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and
 boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every
day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved
ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and
 blame without resentment ,

If you can conquer tension
 without medical help,

If you can relax without liquor,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
