Shheessshhhhhh

So I was at work last night and one of my co-workers who knows I didn't want Obama comes up and starts to tell me a racist joke. Wait I said with my hand out. I do no appreciate those types of joke ever. But you didn't vote for Obama he said. For heavens sake. It is NOT ABOUT HIS RACE. Another person who voted for the wrong reasons. Makes me sad. Seriously he could be purple, that is not the reason we vote, for either person running.

So that got me in a hissy mood the rest of the night. I just get so I can go a few hours and not think about anything political and that happens and I get mad all over.

You know everyone is entitled to their opinion, I know that. I don't talk politics at work unless it is being discussed and then I do give my opinion you can bet. But some things, like racist behavior always surprises me. I just don't hear this type of talk much, surround myself by all the right people I guess, so I was surprised. And sad. So here is someone who is agains't the man I voted against, but for the wrong reasons also.

DID anyone vote for the right reasons!

Anyway, onward. We had a lovely wet snow this morning. Looking out from the windows over the city during the night, the snow softly snowing and iluminated against the streetlights was so lovely. I love walking in a wet snowfall. But couldn't do that being I was at work. I had such great patients and really liked them. It was a good night.

Yesterday however we got some bad news. Read the news and checked out the obits and Ricks relative had passed away. We didn't find out until after the service. So sad. There were elderly and we didn't see them often but always enjoyed visiting with them so Rick was pretty sad. We are sending off our card today.

I believe in Karma, what goes around comes around. Birth to the full circle of death. Still it does throw you.

Well Rick is making us Creole for supper, yummy. Then work tonight. Here's hoping for 2 in a row.

Food Friday

This is for Linda's Food Friday.

I found this recipe on All recipe a few years back and will never make corn beef and cabbage any other way. It is just wonderful. Even with me cooking it it was wonderful and my MIL said it was the best meal I ever cooked her.

Corned Beef and Cabbage II

SUBMITTED BY: ORIGINALSYN PHOTO BY: BETHRACHEL

"My mother has been making corned beef and cabbage this way for years. She has no idea where the recipe came from but it is absolutely the best. Easy and quick...Enjoy!"

PREP TIME 15 Min
COOK TIME 4 Hrs
READY IN 4 Hrs 15 Min

  • 1 (5 1/2 pound) corned beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons pickling spice
  • 1 large orange, sliced in rounds
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 6 tablespoons margarine, divided
  • 1 large head cabbage, cored and sliced
  • 1 cup Golden Delicious apples, cored and quartered with peel
  • 1/4 cup cold water
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line a 9x13 inch roasting pan with aluminum foil, leaving enough extra extending over the sides to cover and seal in the roast.
  1. Rinse the brisket, and pat dry. Rub with pickling spice, and place in the prepared roasting pan. Arrange celery, orange and onion slices on and around the roast. Pour in 1/2 cup of water, and wrap aluminum foil up over the roast tightly, making sure the ends are sealed.
  2. Bake for about 4 hours in the preheated oven, or until meat is tender.
  3. About 45 minutes before the roasts time is up, heat 3 tablespoons of margarine and 1/4 cup of water in a large pot. Add cabbage and apples, cover, and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Occasionally shake the pot so that nothing sticks to the bottom. Serve with remaining margarine and sliced corned beef.

Friday already

I can't believe it is Friday already. The time is just flying.

Today I am going shopping for my Thanksgiving items. I work almost every day until the day and need to get my supplies and Turkey. I am actually cooking this year so it should be interesting. Rick will be there to supervise. It's not that I can't cook, I do sometimes, its just that Rick is much better at it and likes to cook better then me. So I say, go for it big guy.

My oldest son just called. He works for waste management and his truck caught on fire. Yikes. He was able to jump out and put the fire out with his fire extinguisher which all the trucks carry, but it could have been serious. Its a rather dangerous job as it is without the trucks catching fire so I am grateful it turned out OK.

My wrist feels better today thank goodness. Mostly its the cyst that is bothering me. It has doubled in size this year and must be pressing on some nerves or something. I hope they can just pop it out and I can be back to work in no time. If it didn't bother me and interfere with my typing so much I would just ignore it but I type at work all the time and it really causes me some fits. I always said my job is lovely if it weren't for the paperwork, which is now-a-days typing work.

Work went well the other day. I had some nice patients although we were full it went well without problems. There were all experienced nurses on and it is nice as everyone knows exactly what to do. Not that I don't like the new nurses, I do, but when we are busy and you have 1000 questions to answer it can make it stressful. But we were all new once and we all learn. That is why it is great to partner up new staff with experienced staff.

It is cold and dreary out. Hard to get motivated to take any pictures. Here is a bare tree and gee, here is another bare tree. I am looking forward to those big fat snowflakes to see if I can capture some flakes with my macro lens.

Well, I had better quit. The warning on the bottom says this entry may fail. Hummmmm. I hope Dad gets his blog back. Didn't occur to me these might get lost in cyberspace also.

Sometimes you get to my age and you ask yourself, do you want to live it safe? Or do you want to live it fully.............

I can't believe that not only am I awake this morning I already have supper cooking! Thats amazing for me. I am making pork cutlets with sauerkraut and apples in the crock pot today. One of my mothers favorites. A good German meal except I add the apple and she never did.

Don't you just love crock pot meals, get them ready in the morning and them just ignore it the rest of the day. My kind of meal.

I work tonight extra and have to be charge at 11. I get tomorrow off instead. My hand is bothering me so much I hope it goes well. Every since they did the EMG studies my wrist has been numb and hurts. I have had DeQuervain's tenosynovitis flair up a few times. I have had it injected twice. Hurts like the dickens and you can only have it done a couple of times.

That is one of the things they are going to repair on my wrist. Get rid the cyst, fix my carpel tunnel and the tendon. I had it done on my other hand a few years back plus I had a tumor removed from my finger. We thought it was a cyst so that was a surprise and I am glad I caught it early. That hand works good now. So hopefully this will help this. For now I am wearing my brace and hoping it settles down. My neck hurts also where they put the needle in. I am such a whimp these days, LOL.

Other then that not much going on. No dancing last night as the meal cooked extremely fast. Oh well. I am not much of a dancer anyway, LOL. He isn't either so we do pretty good but would never dance in public.

So off I go to clean house nad read my book. Take care all.

Oh my. The day is almost finished. We did some Christmas shopping today. Didn't find anything to buy. Sigh. Sometimes it is so hard. The stuff looks so junky and why spend good money on it. My mind is a blank on what to buy for my impressionable grandchildren.

Right now Rick is grilling a steak. I have mushrooms and garlic sauting in the pan. I smoked a honey cigar which was good and evil at the same time. And I am drinking a Beamish Irish Cream Stout. so good.

Didn't get any pictures to brag about except some good ones of Zoey. She always looks good. Listening to some jazz while I am waiting for my broccoli to steam, sprinkle a little Parmesan on it. Rick might be in the mood for a dance around around the fire as it is cool and inviting around the heat and the music just calls to us. Nothing like a dance in the moonlight to lighten your mood.

My wrist is down to a dull ache. I am thinking about my surgery. How much can I work before hand so the money situation won't be a nagging thought slowing my recovery. I could work everyday if I wanted to. But do I? Not.

We have a movie to watch after we eat. Hummmm. Will I stay awake though the movie? And I am thinking about thanksgiving. I have a temptation to go out and eat. Not cook. Always a temptation. But creating a great meal. Such a good feeling. What to do. I am looking for a great dressing and stuffing recipe. Anyone want to share.

Mai din natten være avslappet og fylt med gode tanker.
